Lecturer
Mathieu Wellner (°1972, Paris) received his diploma in Architecture in Brussels. After assisting Elia Zenghelis in Brussels, he moved in 2002 to Munich, where he started to work on several projects, exhibitions and publications. He was involved at the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University Munich between 2007 and 2010. From 2006 – 2011, he has been working as freelance coordinator of the architectural projects for the Haus der Kunst in Munich, responsible for a common study by AMO/Rem Koolhaas and Herzog & de Meuron, the symposium about “built ideologies”, or the architecture part of the “so sorry” exhibition about chinese artist Ai Weiwei. He is co-director of the Wiederhall Foundation in Amsterdam and co-founder of “Q+A panels” in Munich. He is currently curating, lecturing and publishing.
Mathieu Wellner joined recently the institute of architectural theory at Innsbruck University as a teacher and researcher. His research is focused on the work and theory of israeli architect Leopold Gerstel, who had been involved as a professor at Innsbruck University between 1982-1993. Gerstel was an important figure at that time and influenced a whole generation of architects in Tyrol. A symposium aswell as an exhibition and a publication is planned about Gerstel in close cooperation with the Technion in Haifa (Israel).
