Lecturer
Leonid Slonimskiy, born in 1987 in Moscow, is an architect, architectural researcher and academic. He received architectural education in Columbia University GSAPP in New York and Moscow Architectural Institute. During his studies he has studied an exchange semester in Urbanism in Shibaura Institute in Tokyo. For more than 6 years Leonid has been a collaborator of OMA*AMO in New York and Herzog de Meuron in Basel.
Leonid is a co-founder of architectural practice, “KOSMOS Architects”. The office has won in multiple international competitions including Hans Christian Andersen Museum in Denmark; Nike Sports Center in Moscow; Queensway Competition in New York; got nominated for Swiss Art Awards 2017; co-curated an exhibition in Swiss Architecture museum in Basel. Built work of the office includes museum pavilion for Garage Center of Art, art-cluster EMA Space, installation for Storefront for Art and Architecture in front of New Museum in New York, exhibition design in MMOMA Moscow and more. Besides architecture, office pursues several research projects, including publications on infrastructural architecture, on the grave of Kazimir Malevich, regulations in public space and more.
Leonid’s academic experience includes teaching 4 architectural studios in Bangkok’s Chulalongkorn University, INDA faculty of architecture (Adjunct Professor). Together with Blanca Garcia Gardelegui and a group of 4th-year students he launched a research/design studio “Very Welcome” developing a critical perception of conventional tourism and touristic infrastructure and its influence on local culture, society and economy. The studio was accompanied by a through research on unique urban and architectural conditions of Bangkok, which serves as a base for the forthcoming publication “Architecture reading Aid Bangkok”. Besides University, Leonid was a leader of multiple architectural workshops: AA Visiting School, workshop in University of Antwerpen, Strelka Institute workshop, Hello Wood Hungary, Design Build (Bangkok), and more. Leonid gave public lectures on his work in ETH Zurich, Swiss Architecture Museum, Kotor Summer School in Montenegro, Moscow Architectural School, Venice Biennale, Moscow Architecture Institute and more.
